SARAHCROWN is pleased to present Under the Drowsy Sun, bringing together new works by Pippa El Kadhi Brown, Elisa Bertaglia, and Bu Shi, exploring the shifting boundaries between waking and dreaming, stillness and transformation, beauty and unease.
The exhibition takes its title as an atmosphere rather than a fixed proposition. The sun and nature are an implied presence, felt through light, warmth, and the luminous qualities of golden and reflective surfaces. Across the works, light becomes both material and mood, evoking states of reverie, languor, melancholy, and quiet disorientation. Suspended somewhere between the familiar and the uncanny, the works suggest a world in which time slows, forms become elusive, and beauty and strangeness exist in delicate tension.
Together, the three artists approach landscape, light, and atmosphere as spaces of psychological and emotional possibility. Moving between abstraction and intricate figuration, their works invite a slower kind of looking, one attuned to fleeting impressions, hidden details, and the ambiguous beauty of things caught between states of being.
