Sacco Arai (B. 1999, Tokyo, Japan) lives and works in Tokyo

Sacco Arai (b. 1999, Tokyo) is a Japanese contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in Japanese painting while exploring narrative, memory, and the emotional resonance of everyday scenes. Arai graduated from the Department of Japanese Painting at Tama Art University in 2023 and completed an MFA in Fine Arts at the Graduate School of Art and Design, Tama Art University, in 2025.Working across traditional and contemporary approaches, Arai creates paintings that evoke quiet encounters between personal experience and collective imagination. Her works often unfold as visual stories, balancing delicate observation with poetic ambiguity.Arai has presented solo exhibitions including The Silent Encounter at PG Gallery, Seoul (2025), A Room with a Picture at Kyoto Tsutaya Books (2024), and Yellow Wall, A Few Short Stories at Yokohama Marine Tower Art Gallery (2023). Her work has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions in Tokyo and Seoul, including the Joint Graduation Exhibitions of Five Art Universities in Tokyo at The National Art Center, Tokyo.In addition to gallery exhibitions, Arai has participated in international art fairs such as Art Busan (2025), ART ONO (2024), ART021 Hong Kong, and ART021 Shanghai. In 2022, she was selected for the 40th Ueno Royal Museum Grand Prize Exhibition, Painting that Opens the Future.Based in Tokyo, Arai continues to develop a contemporary painting practice informed by the traditions of Nihonga and a deep interest in storytelling through images
