SARAHCROWN is pleased to present Whispers, Flutters, and Collide, bringing together six contemporary artists whose works traverse the boundaries of perception, experience, and play. Ranging from custom AI-model generated imagery to wall sculptures made with hair extensions, from encaustic panels to hyperrealistic drawings and traditional paintings, their diverse practices explore the intersections of culture, nature, and technology. Together, they create a dialogue that feels both intimate and expansive, resonating on multiple levels. Each artist invites viewers into spaces where the subtle and the spectacular coexist — where delicate gestures, cosmic visions, and surreal encounters converge.
Hiva Alizadeh reimagines the ancient art of Kerman carpet weaving by substituting traditional materials with synthetic hair extensions. This innovative approach results in vibrant, chromatic “landscapes”, interpretations of traditional textures with a cosmopolitan and almost psychic touch. Drawing from the local rich history and various mythological narratives, these multicolored wall sculptures embody an innovative interpretation of Eastern and Western cultures in the contemporary global era.
Cecile Chong's multimedia practice encompasses painting, sculpture, installation, video, and public art, layering materials, identities, histories, and languages. Her work addresses ideas of cultural interaction and interpretation, as well as the commonalities humans share in our relationship to nature and to each other. This exhibition features her encaustic panels. Inspired by materials as signifiers, she is interested in how we acquire and share culture, and how world cultures now overlap and interact in ways previously inconceivable.
Peter Depelchin's artistic universe is deeply rooted in the interpretation of art-historical and literary observations. By decontextualizing and neo-contextualizing art-historical aesthetics such as allegory, iconography, and spatial representation, he creates a new intercultural imagery that avoids cultural appropriation. His works often feature intricate patterns and phantastic narratives, inviting viewers into a world where the past and present collide in a harmonious symbiosis.
Mattia Casalegno's interdisciplinary practice spans VR, AR, video, performance, immersive installations, and mixed reality, exploring the physical and sensory perceptions of its viewers. Drawing from disciplines such as anthropology, ecology, biology, neurosciences, and informatics, his work delves into the relations and tensions between nature, society, and technology. Through his art, Casalegno evokes experiences that are fully immersive, sensorially embodied, and psychologically heightened.
Joshua Feigin's paintings engage in a playful and hallucinatory manner to unearth bizarre or humorously macabre narratives. His works often feature surreal imagery and distorted forms, creating a sense of unease and intrigue. By blending elements of the grotesque with the whimsical, Feigin invites viewers to confront the absurdities of existence through a lens of dark humor and vivid imagination.
Dov Talpaz's new landscape paintings offer a delicate yet profound glimpse into the artist's inner world, expressed through a diverse range of techniques and subject matter. His inspirations and focal points shift — from old Japanese films to desert mountains and riverscapes — yet each work conveys something more covert, more intricate beneath the surface. Though void of figurative elements, these landscapes are imbued with emotion and layered with narratives that speak to the human condition.
