Andreana Dobreva’s large-scale paintings play with high-contrast palettes, a rich colouring, theatrical lightning and components of the Baroque and Rococo movements.
Through deploying elements of these European art periods, her paintings transport a certain feeling of awe and a sense of drama. However, Dobreva does not simply work with stylistic quotations, but takes Rococo paintings in actual existence as her starting point, transforming them in their entirety.
