Biography
Dov Talpaz (b. 1977) is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. At age 22, Talpaz moved to NYC to study painting at the New York Studio School with artists Mercedes Matter and Rosemarie Beck. In 2003, Talpaz worked at Paul Resika’s studio for seven years. Matter, Beck, and Resika were all important influences on Talpaz’s evolution as a painter. During that time, Talpaz has engaged in many painting collaborations with colleagues, co-creating the painting group “Painting in New York,” which exhibited biannually for twelve years.
In recent years, Talpaz has continued painting consistently in his Brooklyn studio while also spending time painting in nature, a focused experience that has led to new paths in his overall work. “Dov Talpaz’s works offer a delicate, profound view of the artist’s inner world through an artistically diverse range of technique and subject matter. His inspiration and centerpiece vary, from old Japanese movies to desert mountains, and the viewer can sense that they all speak of something more covert, more intricate. Talpaz’s geometric landscapes that border abstraction involve mountains as a visual pointer of his memories from Israel and American scenery. His figurative series, inspired by mostly film, literature, and significant life relationships, combine extreme opposition of vivid colors and expressive figures.” - Sarah Corona
Dov Talpaz has exhibited locally and internationally, including recent solo and group shows at 601 Artspace (NYC), Slag Gallery (NYC), EGMS Studio (Austria), SARAHCROWN (NYC), Triumph Gallery (Chicago), Loftis Studio (NYC), William Holman Gallery (NYC), Fire Barn Gallery (MI), and Muskegon Museum of Art (MI), among many others. His paintings were presented at Untitled Art Fair (Miami), Dallas Art Fair (Texas), ArtPrize (MI), and Spring/Break Art Show (NYC). His works were featured in The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Hyperallergic, Whitehot Magazine, and Forbes, among other publications. His works are part of private and public collections worldwide.
